Fostering Vocations

The Revd Sue Groom, Director of DLMs, has been invited to preach at churches around the Kensington Episcopal area on most Sundays. She is now fully booked until the end of 2008. Selected sermons may be found in the Sermons Index.

First Year Completed

In July 2008 the first three DLM students completed the first academic year of their ordination training with STETS, the Southern Theological Education and Training Scheme based at Sarum College, Salisbury. One more student will commence training this Autumn. Future students are expected to train at the new St Mellitus College which was formally inaugurated with a special commissioning ceremony held at St Paul's Cathedral on July 2nd 2008.

New Upper Age Limit on Training

In April 2008 a decision was made by the London College of Bishops to finance training for self-supporting ministry only for those aged under 58 at commencement of training (different rules apply to those considering stipendiary ministry). This has dramatically reduced the number of candidates for Deanery Licensed Ministry.

Bishop Moves to St Paul's Cathedral

In November 2007 it was announced that the Bishop of Kensington, the Rt Revd Michael Colclough, would be taking up a new post as Residentiary Canon at St Paul's. The Bishop of London, the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dr Richard Chartres, is looking to appoint a new Bishop for the Kensington Area and an announcement is expected in due course.

Around the Area

In the autumn of 2007 the Bishop of Kensington, the Rt Revd Michael Colclough, together with the Director of DLMs and the Area Director of Ordinands (ADO) gave presentations to and met with thirty potential DLM candidates at meals hosted by three of the Area Deans.
