Welcome to Scroll Control!

Scroll Control Options Scroll Control allows you to fine tune your window scroll bar controls via the Appearance Control Panel. Using the standard interface your options are fairly limited: either single scroll arrows at both ends with fixed size scroll boxes, or double arrows bottom and right with proportional size scroll boxes. Scroll Control gives you more choices: double scroll arrows at both ends, for example, with either fixed size or proportional scroll boxes, or single scroll arrows, again with either fixed size or proportional scroll boxes.

How it Works
Scroll Control uses AppleScript to tweak the Appearance Control Panel's settings in ways that aren't otherwise available. All the options are there, built in by Apple's programmers, but for some reason Apple didn't see fit to make them accessible in the standard interface.

If you find you don't like the results, simply open the Appearance Control Panel in the normal way, select the Options tab and reset it from there. Scroll Control does not make any permanent changes to the way the control panel works.

If you're into AppleScript and want to know more, open Scroll Control with the Script Editor; otherwise, just fire it up and enjoy your improved scroll bar controls!

Acknowledgements
The specific code that enables double scroll arrows at both ends was published as a Macworld Tip submitted by John Gillette (Macworld, October 2001, p.151 "Pointing in the right direction"). Thanks to both John Gillette and Macworld.

System Requirements
Any Mac with AppleScript installed and an Appearance Control Panel version that can handle the relevant scripting commands. Scroll Control was compiled under Mac OS 8.5.1 running AppleScript version 1.3.4
If it won't run on your Mac:
i) Open it with Script Editor
ii) Change something (typng a space will do)
iii) Change it back (if you typed a space, delete it)
iv) Click "Check Syntax"
v) Save your changes
This should recompile Scroll Control to run on your system.
If it doesn't, you probably changed something you shouldn't have. C'est la vie.

Distribution Info
Shareware distributors are welcome to include Scroll Control on Web sites, CD ROMs etc provided that:
(i) it is not modified in any way (suggestions for modifications/improvements are most welcome, however);
(ii) the file "About Scroll Control" (part of the download) accompanies it;
(iii) no charge is made for it.

A copy of any CD ROM that Scroll Control appears on would be appreciated, but is not a prerequisite to its inclusion. Please email me for my snail-mail address.
