Welcome to QuitFinder
QuitFinder is an AppleScript that does exactly what its name suggests: it quits the Finder.
This allows you to rebuild the desktop without the inconvenience of restarting (it may not be kosher but it works!).
Instructions
1) Run QuitFinder.
2) The Finder will quit and, if no other applications are open, should immediately relaunch itself.
If any other applications are open, you'll normally need to quit them before the Finder relaunches.
3) Press the 'Command' and 'Option' keys as the Finder relaunches and, bingo, it's rebuild the desktop time...
no restart needed, no time wasted reloading all your extensions.
4) Optional extra: you may wish to relaunch anything that was in your Startup Items folder afterwards.

System Requirements
Any Mac running system 7.5 or higher; AppleScript.
QuitFinder was compiled with AppleScript 1.3.4 under MacOS 8.5.1 - if it won't run on your machine, try this:
1) Open it with the Script Editor (should be in the AppleScript folder, in the Apple Extras folder)
2) Change something (just typing a space will do)...
3) ...then change it back (if you typed a space, delete it)
4) Click the "Check Syntax" button (should be top right on the Script Editor window)
5) Save it.
This should recompile QuitFinder to run on your system.

Distribution Info
Shareware distributors are welcome to include QuitFinder on Web sites, CD ROMs etc provided that:
(i) it is not modified in any way (suggestions for modifications/improvements are most welcome, however);
