Welcome to DayFinder!
DayFinder is an AppleScript utility that lets you type in a date then tells you which day of the week it is, was or will be. You can, of course, look this up yourself if you happen to have a calendar or diary for the relevant year handy.
DayFinder is for those occasions when you haven't or simply can't be bothered to get it out.
When, for example, you want to know which day of the week...
Your spouse's birthday will fall on next year
Your silver wedding anniversary will fall on
Christmas day fell on in 1869
All very useful stuff. Really don't know how I managed without it before...
To use DayFinder, simply run it (doubleclick).
Dates can be entered in almost any format:
05/08/02, 5.8.02 (two-digit years are assumed to refer to the current century)
5Aug, 5 Aug, Aug5, aug 5, August 5 (standard month abbreviations are recognised; if no year is specified, the current year is assumed)
Jul, Aug, Sep (month only with no date defaults to the 1st of the specified month)
1, 2, 3 (date only, no month or year, assumes current month)
July 4 2003, August 15 1920, 23 Jan 1959.
Please note that numeric abbreviations - 1st, 3rd, 22nd etc - will not always be recognised; where they fail the date entered will be treated as the 1st of the month concerned.
Finally, just for fun, if you'd like DayFinder to remember your birthday type in the word "birthday" instead of a date.
Feel free to take it apart with the Script Editor, but modified copies may ONLY be distributed if you add your name, the date and some info about the changes you've made to the accompanying "About Dayfinder" file AND in the comments section within the file itself.
System Requirements
Any Mac running system 7.5 or higher; AppleScript.
DayFinder was compiled with AppleScript 1.3.4 under MacOS 8.5.1 - if it won't run on your machine, try this:
1) Open it with the Script Editor (should be in the AppleScript folder, in the Apple Extras folder)
2) Change something (just typing a space will do)...
3) ...then change it back (if you typed a space, delete it)
4) Click the "Check Syntax" button (should be top right on the Script Editor window)
5) Save it.
This should recompile DayFinder to run on your system.
